Teams Introduces Automatic Bot Blocking to Enhance Meeting Security
Microsoft has introduced a new policy for Microsoft Teams that allows administrators to automatically block detected external meeting bots. This change removes the need for organizers to approve or reject suspected automated participants manually.
The new BlockDetectedBots option will sit alongside settings that allow bots or require approval when they are detected. It is off by default, meaning administrators must explicitly enable it.
External meeting bots can pose a risk to organizations, particularly in sensitive meetings where unauthorized recording or data capture may occur. The current approval model creates a potential weak point, as an unfamiliar participant could be approved accidentally in busy meetings.
The policy allows administrators to apply the blocking setting to particular users or groups through Teams meeting policies. This enables companies to target employees who regularly handle sensitive discussions rather than applying the restriction everywhere.
