Teams Tackles Meeting Scams with New Reporting Option

Microsoft Teams is expanding its reporting features to include live meetings, aimed at combating scams and suspicious activity. A new 'Report a concern' option will be available in meetings, allowing participants to flag potential issues such as phishing, impersonation, and deepfakes.

The feature builds on existing reporting capabilities within the app, which already allows users to report suspicious messages and other content. However, this new development takes it a step further by enabling attendees to send security reports directly from inside meetings or via the meeting chat.

These submissions will be visible in the admin center and can also be accessed through Microsoft Defender. The reports will include details about the meeting, as well as some context for investigations. However, it's worth noting that the data is not automatically collected by Microsoft; instead, it goes directly to the organization's security processes.

Microsoft aims to give organizations more control over external meeting bots and provide a clearer path for participants to flag abuse. While this feature does not automatically detect deepfakes, it provides an important reporting mechanism that can aid in investigations.
