Teams Together Mode Retires in June 2026

Microsoft Teams is retiring its Together Mode feature on June 30, 2026. This means that shared scenes, custom scenes, and seat assignments will no longer be available for meetings in Teams.

Together Mode was introduced in July 2020 as a way to create virtual meeting spaces that mimicked real-world environments. The feature used AI to isolate each participant's head and shoulders from their background and place them into a shared scene, such as a conference room or auditorium.

The retirement of Together Mode is part of Microsoft's effort to simplify meeting layouts and focus on improving video quality, stability, and performance. Gallery view will remain the primary meeting layout in Teams after June 30.

Admins who used custom scenes for internal events or relied on seat assignments for structured presentations should review their settings before the cutoff date. They should inventory custom Together Mode scenes, identify recurring meetings or templates that use the feature, and alert event organizers who may still expect those layouts to work.
