Teamsters Protest at Amazon Warehouse Amid Labor Disputes
Amazon faced a labor protest at one of its warehouses in Riverside, California, where workers from Teamsters Local 1932 demanded 'safer working conditions' and called out alleged 'unfair labor practices.' The union claimed that employees on primary shifts participated in the stoppage, bringing the facility to a standstill for 24 hours.
However, Amazon spokesperson Eileen Hards denied any disruption, stating that there was no evidence of employee participation in the protest. She also clarified that the Teamsters do not represent any workers at the DJT6 facility and that employees have the choice of joining a union or not.
The corporation emphasized its commitment to providing safe and inclusive workplaces, competitive pay, health benefits on day one, and opportunities for career growth. Hards pointed out that Amazon has invested $1 billion in recent years to contain health insurance costs and boost employee salaries, increasing the average base hourly wage to over $23 and total compensation to $30 per hour.
Randy Korgan, Director of Teamsters Amazon Division and Local 1932 Treasurer, said, 'Amazon thinks it can trample workers' rights with no consequences, but Amazon Teamsters ... are proving them wrong.' Emmanuel Cadena, a Teamsters Local 1932 member who works at the warehouse, echoed this sentiment, claiming that instead of listening to their concerns, Amazon has responded with 'illegal intimidation and retaliation.'
