Tech Firms Unite to Warn of Imminent AI-Powered Cyber Threat

A group of 100 top tech firms, including Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, have signed an open letter calling for better cyber defenses as AI grows in power.

The letter warns that current security measures won't be enough to counter the rapidly improving technology, which will soon enable more widespread and sophisticated cyber-attacks.

Firms such as Capital One, MasterCard, Visa, Adobe, Oracle, IBM, and Hugging Face have also signed the letter, which criticizes the 'historic under-resourcing' of security around critical infrastructure.

The group calls on governments to provide capable defensive AI and testing for hospitals and water utilities, while technology companies should aid these efforts by providing responsible model access, significant funding, training, and support for under-resourced defenders.
