When it comes to naming your home Wi-Fi network, there's a stark difference in advice from tech giants Microsoft and Apple. While both companies have their own reasons for recommending one method over the other, only one makes sense.
Apple suggests using a unified SSID for all available Wi-Fi bands on your router. This means having just one name for your 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz networks. According to Apple's support documents, this approach allows devices like iPhones, iPads, and Macs to handle the handoff seamlessly and choose the best band for the situation.
However, Microsoft takes a different stance, recommending that each Wi-Fi band have its own separate SSID. This distinction helps confirm which band your devices are connected to, making it easier to avoid congested bands like 2.4GHz.
