More than 100 companies, including tech giants and startups, have signed an open letter urging businesses and governments to strengthen their cyber defenses in response to the growing threat of AI-powered hacks.

The signatories, which include OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL) and Amazon (AMZN), warned that AI-enabled cyberattacks will become 'far more widespread and sophisticated' as AI models become increasingly capable.

The letter's authors noted that recent incidents involving OpenAI and Anthropic models have highlighted the potential for AI systems to carry out attacks at a scale that would be difficult for human attackers to manage.

These companies are calling on organizations, governments, technology companies, and AI firms to make cyber defense an 'immediate leadership priority' and address weaknesses in their software.
