Tech Giants Sound Alarm on Impending AI Cyberattack Surge
More than 130 leading tech companies have come together to sound the alarm on an impending surge in AI-driven cyberattacks. The group, which includes Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and IBM, warns that these attacks will become much more widespread and sophisticated in the coming months.
The signatories argue that current security measures are insufficient and that old bugs, overly broad permissions, misconfigurations, weak authentication, and technical debt in legacy systems have made systems vulnerable. They also point out that security teams for critical infrastructure have historically been understaffed.
The group has outlined four guiding principles to address this issue: treating cyber defense as an immediate leadership priority, fixing the most dangerous vulnerabilities, raising the bar for what is purchased, built, and deployed, including AI-generated code, and making AI-based defense accessible to critical infrastructure operators. They are calling on leaders in industry and government to leverage their technology, resources, and expertise to share effective solutions.
