Tech Giants Unleash Wave of Layoffs Amid AI-Driven Restructuring Efforts
As of June 2026, the tech industry has witnessed significant job losses across various companies. According to reports, over 170,000 workers in the tech sector have been laid off this year alone, with a total of more than 245,000 layoffs recorded in 2025.
Microsoft has joined the list of companies cutting jobs, with a recent round of layoffs affecting around 4,800 employees. The Xbox division is particularly affected, with 3,200 roles being cut through fiscal year 2027.
Samsung, Oracle, Amazon, Uber, and Monday.com are also among the companies that have announced job cuts this year. Oracle has had the biggest impact on layoffs so far, cutting around 21,000 jobs over the past year, roughly 13% of its workforce.
The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across various operations have been cited as a reason for these job losses, with many companies looking to restructure and streamline their operations to adapt to the changing landscape. TrueUp notes that layoffs seem to be moving at a faster rate than last year, with several companies citing increased spending in AI as a factor.
