Tech Industry Layoffs Reach All-Time High in US
As of June 2026, tech layoffs are at an all-time high in the United States. Over 245,000 workers have been let go in the tech industry so far this year, surpassing last year's numbers. Oracle, a software giant, has had the biggest impact with 21,000 job cuts, roughly 13% of its workforce.
Other companies such as Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon, Uber, and Monday.com have also cut jobs, with Microsoft laying off 4,800 employees in July, mostly from its Xbox gaming division. Samsung is eliminating 179 jobs as it moves its New Jersey headquarters to Texas later this year.
In response to the job cuts, California Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled a tool to track AI's impact on the workforce, and more than 4,500 Google workers signed a petition calling for layoff protections, including buyouts before mandatory layoffs and guaranteed severance.
