Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has joined other tech leaders in expressing concerns about the rapid development of frontier artificial intelligence (AI) models. In a post on X, Nadella emphasized that if AI's growth is not benefiting humanity and under human control, it's not worth pursuing.

Nadella highlighted the need to accelerate and spread the benefits of AI across countries, communities, and companies. He suggested creating a frontier ecosystem where both closed and open-source models can thrive, allowing firms to retain full control over their unique knowledge and build continuous learning systems without relying on single AI model providers.

His statement follows calls from Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, and Elon Musk for a global slowdown in AI development. They argue that the rapid acceleration of AI could lead to a catastrophic loss of control. Microsoft has welcomed research and 'deliberate pacing' to ensure alignment is right as the design goal.

Nadella also emphasized the importance of broad representation across the AI ecosystem, countries, and fields, including academia. He announced that Microsoft would publish code for public consultation under its Code of Conduct.
