Tech Pro Compares Indian IT Giant to Microsoft: 'Ownership Hits Different'
Sailesh Gurung, a tech professional who transitioned from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to Microsoft, shared his experiences of working in different corporate environments. He noted that moving from a service-based company to a product-driven organization changed his perspective on corporate life.
Gurung started his career as a fresher at TCS after graduation and later joined Microsoft. He observed significant differences between the two companies, including hierarchy, dress codes, office amenities, flexibility, and the level of responsibility attached to his role.
In particular, Gurung highlighted the flatter hierarchy at Microsoft, where reporting structures were less apparent compared to his experience in a service-based setup. He also mentioned that there was no strict dress code at Microsoft, allowing employees to wear what they wanted. The office facilities at Microsoft were more extensive, including gaming zones, chill spaces, and places for rest and relaxation.
Gurung emphasized the shift from handling one portion of a task to taking responsibility for it from beginning to end in his role at Microsoft. He noted that this change brought both heavier responsibility but also greater growth opportunities and better compensation. The transition from TCS to Microsoft was significant, according to Gurung, who felt that he experienced a more employee-focused working environment.
