Tech Support Specialist Foils Nobel Laureate's PC Inferno
A tech support specialist, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared his embarrassing story of nearly setting a Nobel Prize winner's PC on fire. The incident occurred in the early 1990s at a graduate school run by his alma mater.
The professor was working with an IBM PC powered by an Intel 286 processor and had issues with his mouse not working properly. The tech support specialist brought a replacement mouse and plugged it into what he thought was the correct port, but unfortunately, it was the wrong one.
As soon as he rebooted the PC, it started to smoke, filling the room with an unpleasant odor. The specialist quickly kicked out the power cord from the wall socket, took a few deep breaths, and assessed the situation. He realized his mistake and plugged the mouse into the correct port.
The professor eventually received his Nobel Prize, but the tech support specialist's heroics remain unknown to history. He humbly admitted that he had learned a valuable lesson about being careful when working with computers.
