Temenos Achieves Record-Breaking Scale with Microsoft Azure Benchmark
The banking industry is undergoing significant changes as it increasingly demands support for multiple transactions, real-time inquiries, payments, APIs, and AI-powered interactions. To address this challenge, Temenos has conducted a benchmark test on Microsoft Azure to explore what scaling means at scale.
The 2026 Highwater Benchmark tested various services, including Lending, Deposits Modularity, Temenos Payments Hub, Holdings, Party microservices, and Copilot for Core, which is an AI-powered assistant embedded in Temenos Core. The benchmark used large-scale datasets with 50 million customers and up to 125 million accounts.
The results showed an overall throughput of 16,385 transactions per second, including 12,241 TPS across Holdings inquiries, 2,109 TPS for Deposits, 1,539 TPS for Lending, and 252 TPS for Copilot for Core. The benchmark also processed 244 payment orders per second.
The real story behind the benchmark is not just about the headline number but rather three key takeaways: scale has become a multi-workload challenge, modularity is proving its value at scale, and AI is becoming part of the banking workload.
