Apple's stock has delivered impressive returns under Tim Cook's leadership, with a 42% gain over the past year. The company's valuation expert, Aswath Damodaran, credits Jobs' 'foundational boost' and Cook's 'operational pragmatism' for Apple's success.

Cook added an astonishing $3.64 trillion in market value to Apple during his tenure, which began in August 2011. Damodaran notes that the new CEO, John Ternus, must find his own path and acknowledge that Apple is now a 'mature, cash-returning and more cautious company.'

Under Cook's leadership, Apple shares soared by 2,300% and 2,736% on a total-return basis. This outperforms the S&P 500's 769% surge and the Nasdaq 100's 1,512% gain during the same period.
