Ternus Inherits Apple Leadership from Operations-Focused Cook
After leading Apple for over 15 years, Tim Cook is stepping down as CEO on September 1, 2026. He will be succeeded by John Ternus, the company's senior vice president of hardware engineering.
Cook took over after Steve Jobs' extended leave in 2009 and reassured both Jobs and Apple's board that the company could continue operating smoothly without its founder at the helm.
Jobs chose Cook for his operational expertise, which enabled Apple to expand globally while managing a vast manufacturing network. Unlike Jobs, who was known for product-driven leadership, Cook brought a disciplined approach centered on execution and measured decision-making.
