Ternus Takes Reins at Apple After Cook's 15-Year Stint
Apple Inc's leadership has changed with John Ternus taking over as CEO from Tim Cook, who served for 15 years. Cook left his position on August 31, 2026.
Cook was appointed as the new CEO on August 24, 2011, following Steve Jobs' resignation. At that time, Apple's share price was $373.52.
Under Cook's leadership, Apple grew significantly and became one of the most valuable companies in the world. The company went through two stock splits during his tenure: 7-for-1 in June 2014 and 4-for-1 in August 2020.
A $1,000 investment at the time of Cook's takeover would be worth $23,776.42 today, based on Apple's share price of $316.85. This represents a return of 2,277.6% over the course of 15 years.
