Ternus Takes the Helm as Apple Enters New Era
John Ternus has taken over as CEO of Apple, succeeding Tim Cook who stepped down after 15 years in the role. The transition occurred on September 1, with Cook transitioning to executive chairman and remaining involved in select company matters.
Ternus, a 25-year veteran of Apple, comes from an engineering background and has worked on various core products including the iPhone, Mac, iPad, and AirPods. He played a key role in Apple's shift to its own silicon for the Mac lineup and oversaw several major hardware programs.
The leadership change comes at a time when Apple faces increasing competition in artificial intelligence. Ternus inherits responsibility for accelerating Apple's on-device AI strategy while maintaining the strength of its ecosystem and customer base. Under Cook, Apple's market value grew from around $350 billion to over $4 trillion, with its services business generating more than $100 billion annually.
Cook described Ternus as having 'the mind of an engineer and the heart to lead with integrity.' Ternus said he was grateful for the opportunity and optimistic about the future.
