Texas Governor Secures Compliance from Microsoft, Hut 8, and Equinix on Data Center Standards
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Microsoft, Hut 8, and Equinix will comply with his data center standards. The governor established clear guidelines to ensure data centers protect the state's electric grid, conserve water, respect neighborhoods, and pay their own way.
The standards require data centers to pay for their electric infrastructure instead of shifting costs onto Texas families and small businesses. They also need to reuse their own water, reduce electricity costs for Texans, and not disrupt residential neighborhoods.
The Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) will examine each data center project and verify that they comply with these standards. Data centers that fail to do so may have their approval denied.
