TEZSPIRE Meets EoE Goals in Phase III Trial

AstraZeneca and Amgen's drug TEZSPIRE has met its primary endpoints in a Phase III trial for patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). The CROSSING trial found significant improvements in histologic remission and difficulty swallowing at 24 weeks compared to placebo, which were maintained through 52 weeks. This marks the third inflammatory disease that TEZSPIRE has shown efficacy in.

The drug's safety profile was described as generally consistent with its approved indications. TEZSPIRE inhibits thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), an epithelial cytokine involved in multiple inflammatory pathways. The company plans to submit the findings to regulatory authorities and present them at an upcoming medical meeting.

The prevalence of EoE has increased fivefold since 2009, affecting over 470,000 people in the US. TEZSPIRE is currently approved for severe asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps in several countries.
