Tezspire Scores Key Win in Late-Stage Trial for Eosinophilic Esophagitis
AstraZeneca and Amgen's Tezspire has met its main goals in a late-stage trial for eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic inflammatory disease. The study found 'statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements' across all main and secondary goals at 24 weeks and sustained over a year.
The drug is already approved for severe asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis, and its success in this trial could unlock a blockbuster opportunity with an expanded approval in EoE. The condition affects more than 470,000 people in the US and has been increasing in prevalence.
An expanded approval would put Tezspire directly against Sanofi and Regeneron's Dupixent, another anti-inflammatory medicine approved for several conditions. Analyst Matt Phipps from William Blair estimates that an EoE indication could drive sales higher and support AstraZeneca's goal of $80 billion in annual sales by 2030.
