TheHatman Hacker Exposes Millions of Records from Top Companies
A mysterious hacker known as 'TheHatman' has allegedly dumped millions of stolen records online, affecting major organizations such as McDonald's, Vodafone, and Tata Consultancy Services. The data breach is said to have occurred through compromised login credentials, targeting nearly a dozen companies.
The stolen information includes employee names, emails, phone numbers, job titles, workplace addresses, IDs, and highly privileged account records. According to security researchers, the entries are consistent with Azure directory exports, suggesting that the attack may be authentic.
The implications of this breach are significant, as cybercriminals can use the stolen information to impersonate business partners or clients, leading to potential scams and fraudulent transactions. The victims have disputed the scope of the breach, but researchers believe it is highly likely that the campaign originated from targeted exploitation of Infostealer infections.
Gap Inc., one of the affected companies, has stated that the data in question is limited in scope, non-sensitive, and dated back several years ago. However, security experts argue that even older data can be useful for malicious purposes.
