Thiel Buys into Amazon's AI Play
Billionaire Peter Thiel's investment company, Thiel Macro, added Amazon to its portfolio in Q2 2026 after selling off its entire portfolio in Q3 2025. The purchase was notable as it marks one of the first times Thiel has invested in a technology stock, and Amazon is his only tech holding. The company's focus on AI is expected to drive significant growth in earnings.
Amazon is leveraging AI to improve efficiency and unlock new revenue streams across its retail e-commerce, digital advertising, and cloud computing segments. Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak notes that the company has a long runway for further efficiency improvements in fulfillment and shipping costs through automation.
AWS, Amazon's cloud infrastructure segment, is poised to capitalize on AI demand due to its large customer base and the ease of adoption within AWS. The company is also investing heavily in proprietary AI agents and Trainium chips, which are custom silicon for training and inference workloads. Morgan Stanley estimates that AWS could generate $1 trillion in revenue by 2035, implying 21% annual growth over the next nine-plus years.
