Thiel Macro Invests $419 Million in Three Energy Stocks

Instruments

Peter Thiel's hedge fund, Thiel Macro, has invested $419 million in various companies. The largest position is Amazon, but a significant portion of the portfolio, roughly 33%, is dedicated to three energy stocks: Vista Energy (VIST), Vistra (VST), and X-Energy (XE).

The Motley Fool notes that Vista Energy is not an AI play, as previously thought. Instead, it's an oil and gas company based in Argentina's Vaca Muerta shale formation. Thiel's ties to the company are rooted in geography and politics, as he has a mansion in Buenos Aires' Palermo Chico neighborhood and has met with President Javier Milei.

Vistra is another energy stock, which operates nuclear plants in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland region. It has locked in 20-year power purchase agreements with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Meta. This position represents Thiel's most obvious positioning on the AI trade.
