Thiel Macro Puts Big Bet on Amazon's AI-Fueled Growth
Peter Thiel's hedge fund, Thiel Macro, has made a significant investment in Amazon, with a stake worth 28% of its portfolio as of June 30. This is according to the fund's second-quarter 13F filing, which reveals that outside of Amazon, the fund's other stakes were all in energy companies.
Amazon operates the largest cloud computing service in the world, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and has been investing heavily in data center capacity to meet growing demand for computing power. Despite only accounting for 21% of revenue during Q2, AWS made up 60% of the company's operating profits due to its vastly superior margins.
The growth rate of AWS has accelerated over the past few quarters, from low-20% in 2025 to 37% currently. As more compute comes online, the company's data center investments will convert into revenue and profit growth, making Amazon a compelling investment opportunity.
