Three Giants Emerge in Consolidated AI Security Guardrail Market
The AI security guardrail market has consolidated into three giants after a flurry of billion-dollar deals in 2025. Check Point acquired Lakera for $201.8 million, while Palo Alto Networks absorbed Protect AI, with estimates suggesting a price between $650 million to $700 million. Cisco had already acquired Robust Intelligence the previous year, turning it into the backbone of its Cisco AI Defense platform.
The three platforms now offer a range of functions, including prompt screening, model testing for jailbreaks, and data leakage detection in generative AI applications. Check Point's Lakera-based offering is built on its original runtime guardrail technology, while Palo Alto's Prisma AIRS combines the capabilities of Protect AI's four distinct products. Cisco's AI Defense platform leverages Robust Intelligence's algorithmic red teaming and model validation expertise.
The acquisition prices have not been officially disclosed by all three companies, but estimates suggest that they have spent over $1 billion acquiring AI guardrail technology in a 12-month span. The consolidation of the market has changed the way enterprises evaluate and purchase AI security platforms, with buyers now choosing between established cybersecurity incumbents rather than scrappy startups.
