TIAA Taps Tech Risk Expert Amid Growing AI Safety Concerns

TIAA has appointed Divyangi Anchan as its new chief risk and compliance officer for technology and artificial intelligence risk. She will report directly to Mike Cowell, TIAA's chief risk officer and chief compliance officer.

Anchan comes from a background in AI risk management, having led the effort at Google's enterprise and corporate capabilities. Prior to that, she held senior roles at American Express and J.P. Morgan.

The appointment comes as leaders in the AI industry have expressed concerns over the potential risks of uncontrolled AI development. OpenAI's Sam Altman, Anthropic's Dario Amodei, and XAI's Elon Musk have called for a temporary pause in AI research due to these concerns.
