Tico-Tico's Controversial Coca-Cola Cup Final Goal Still Stands Out

Former Jomo Cosmos striker Manuel 'Tico-Tico' Bucuane is one of the top 10 all-time PSL goalscorers, having netted 104 goals in his career.

Bucuane, who also played for SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates, and Maritzburg United, recalled one of his most memorable goals against Kaizer Chiefs in the 2001/02 Coca-Cola Cup final.

The goal was highly controversial, with many at the stadium not understanding that Bucuane was offside when he scored. The Mozambican striker remembered it as a 'revenge game' and a 'revenge goal', coming after Chiefs had beaten Jomo Cosmos 5-0 in the previous final.

Bucuane explained how the goal came about, saying: 'A ball was played to 'Terminator' [Dikgang Mabalane] on the right and he then went for a cross, a very hard cross onto the first pole. I beat the defender to the ball and connected with it very fast.'

Bucuane credits his instincts as a striker, saying: 'I had this instinct of being in the right place at the right time. I could anticipate what was going to happen.'
