TikTok's AI Homework Helper Accused of Sharing Students' Private Data Without Consent

A proposed class-action lawsuit has been filed against TikTok's AI-based homework platform, Gauth.AI, for allegedly sharing students' private data without their consent.

The complaint, filed by Edward Lominchar in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on August 31, 2026, claims that Gauth embedded Google Analytics tracking technologies to collect personal information from users.

Lominchar alleges that this data collection violates both the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) and the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), and seeks damages under these federal and state laws.

The lawsuit also claims that the unauthorized transmission of user data to Google could be used for ad targeting and marketing by third-party advertisers, and requests an injunction to stop this practice.
