Tim Cook Departs Apple Amid $4.7 Trillion Legacy
Tim Cook's tenure as Apple CEO has come to an end after 15 years of transformation, during which he led the company into becoming one of the most valuable in history. As he steps down, Apple's market capitalization stands at approximately $4.67 trillion, with shares trading around $319.70 on August 31.
Cook took over from Steve Jobs in 2011 and has seen Apple shares rise by roughly 2,000% under his leadership. The company has also made significant strides in diversifying its products and services, including the introduction of Apple Watch, AirPods, subscription services, payments, and proprietary silicon.
Cook's departure marks a new chapter for Apple, with John Ternus set to take over as CEO effective September 1. Ternus, who has spent 25 years at Apple helping build its products, will be tasked with leading the company through its next phase of growth, particularly in artificial intelligence.
The transition is expected to be a smooth one, with Cook remaining on board as executive chairman and Ternus taking over day-to-day operations. However, investors are placing high expectations on Apple's new CEO, with shares trading at roughly 33 times forward earnings, leaving little room for strategic disappointment.
