Tim Cook Steps Down, John Ternus Takes Reins at Apple
John Ternus has taken over as CEO of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) on September 1, 2026, marking a new era for the tech giant after Tim Cook's 15-year tenure.
Cook is not leaving the company, but will instead serve as executive chairman of Apple's board, helping with 'certain aspects' including policy engagement worldwide.
Ternus has been with Apple since 2001 and was promoted to vice president of hardware engineering in 2013 before joining senior leadership in 2021. He inherits an installed base of over 2.5 billion active devices, providing a massive AI platform without the need for enormous infrastructure spending.
