Tokenized Stocks Surge as Blockchain Infrastructure Gains Momentum
For decades, investing in stocks has followed a traditional path. However, the crypto industry is now exploring an alternative route by creating digital representations of stocks on blockchain technology, known as 'tokenized stocks.'
A recent surge in tokenized stock holders has doubled in just one month to approximately 1.31 million, with a significant increase in monthly transfer volume to $23.13 billion, representing a 179% rise.
Companies such as Ondo, Kraken's xStocks, and Binance's bStocks are leading the field, with distributed assets valued at around $872 million, $558 million, and $522 million respectively.
The concept of tokenized stocks is similar to stablecoins like USDC or USDT, which represent traditional currencies on a blockchain. However, unlike these coins, tokenized stocks provide exposure to financial assets such as Apple stock.
While this market remains tiny compared to the global stock market, its growth rate is gaining attention. The industry's ambitions go beyond publicly traded companies, with crypto platforms competing for exposure to private companies before their initial public offerings (IPOs).
