Toll Road Traffic Stop Yields 220 Pounds of Marijuana
A traffic stop on the Indiana Toll Road led to a massive drug bust after authorities seized 220 pounds of marijuana from a rental van.
On September 10, around 7 a.m., a Highway Interdiction Team police officer stopped a rental van on I-90 in Porter County for traffic violations. The driver and passenger appeared 'unusually nervous' to the officer, who said they were traveling from California to New York.
A Lake County K-9 later indicated narcotics in the vehicle, leading authorities to seize the marijuana packed in Home Depot boxes. Two California men, ages 34 and 27, were detained on charges of drug possession and dealing out of Porter County, Indiana. Both were later released.
