Trades Thrive as Labor Day Celebrates American Workers' Efforts

Labor Day in America is more than just an unofficial end to summer. It's a national holiday that honors the efforts of workers throughout the years.

Todd Diorio, business manager of Laborers Local 17 and president of the Hudson Valley Construction Trades Council, says the trades are thriving. 'The trades have been full bore this past season,' he said. 'It has been really busy, and we have some future projects coming up that are large.'

Diorio mentioned several major projects in the area, including Amazon, Walmart, and IBM's project in Poughkeepsie. Labor Day was first recognized as a holiday in Oregon in 1887, with other states supporting it before becoming a federal holiday in 1894.
