Transforming Textile Waste into Sustainable Fashion
Patricia Ermecheo's journey began in Miami, where she was born and raised. Growing up in Venezuela, she witnessed the devastating effects of textile waste on the environment.
After experiencing firsthand the massive amounts of usable clothing being discarded, Patricia set out to solve a global fashion problem. She designed a machine that could break down clothing into raw fiber, creating yarn made entirely from recycled materials.
Her first product was launched through a successful Kickstarter campaign, but it wasn't until she partnered with Nike that her technology gained widespread recognition. The Space Hippie sneaker, featuring OSOMTEX's recycled yarn, validated both the innovation and the demand for sustainable materials in the fashion industry.
However, early success was soon followed by operational and financial pressures as Patricia faced inconsistent long-term contracts and personal struggles with burnout and grief. With support from her community, she rebuilt her approach, shifting from a consumer brand to a B2B service model that helps companies recycle their own materials and move towards circular production.
Today, OSOMTEX is expanding into a broader material recovery platform, aiming to transform the entire supply chain and redefine sustainability in the fashion industry. Patricia's story serves as a testament to her determination and resilience in the face of adversity.
