Triton and P-8A Poseidon Demonstrate Automated Mission-Control Exchange
Northrop Grumman and Boeing have successfully demonstrated an automated mission-control exchange between their MQ-4C Triton unmanned surveillance aircraft and P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol plane. This joint test, funded by both companies, linked the two platforms in a laboratory setting to showcase how they can coordinate missions without relying on manual operator inputs.
The demonstration utilized an open architecture and standardized interface for machine-to-machine planning and execution, leveraging the Universal Command and Control Interface (UCCI). This common standard enables aircraft and systems using the same interface to exchange information across U.S. and allied forces, making cross-platform integration faster and less expensive.
Jane Bishop, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's global surveillance division, emphasized that this collaboration underscores the flexibility and industry investment in their systems. Tory Peterson, vice president of Boeing's P-8 Program, added that this demonstration unlocks real-world capability and interoperability for the U.S. and allies.
