Tropical Americas Set for September Debut as Disney World Expansion Plans Unfold

Walt Disney World is gearing up for its biggest expansion year in recent memory, with two major lands set to open next year. Tropical Americas will transform Animal Kingdom, bringing significant new additions to the park. The 11-acre area will be centered around the cultures and environments of parts of South America, Central America, and Mexico.

The land will feature a new Indiana Jones adventure that sends guests into an ancient Maya temple in search of a mythical creature. An Encanto-inspired attraction will also bring guests into the Madrigal family's world, with Antonio and his connection to animals playing an important role. Families will have another option with El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a carousel featuring 22 hand-carved animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories.

Tropical Americas is expected to open in September, which could give Animal Kingdom a major draw heading into the Halloween and holiday seasons. In contrast, Monstropolis will take a phased approach at Hollywood Studios. The first phase of the Monsters, Inc.-themed land is expected to include the Glob Theater and Harryhausen's restaurant.
