Tropical Storm Dolly Brings Unexpected Attention to a Familiar Name

Tropical Storm Dolly has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, but despite its name being shared by the late country music legend Dolly Parton, there is no connection between the two.

The storm's name was assigned years ago as part of a rotating list compiled by the World Meteorological Organization. The names alternate between male and female, and 'Dolly' was fourth on the 2026 list for the Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical Storm Dolly has formed approximately 1,555 miles east of the Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. Forecasters expect the storm to bring heavy rain to the area but will degenerate into a tropical wave before reaching the islands.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the situation, and while it's not expected to impact Florida, guests planning trips to Walt Disney World should still be aware of the weather conditions in the area. The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be below normal, with a 75% chance of fewer than average storms.
