Trump Accused of 'Blatant Corruption' Over Boeing Stock Purchase
Rep. Shontel Brown of Ohio has accused President Donald Trump of 'blatant corruption' following a watchdog account's discovery that his investment accounts purchased between $250,000 and $500,000 in Boeing stock on June 18, the same day the Navy awarded Boeing an $880 million contract for P-8A Poseidon aircrew and maintenance training systems.
The disclosure was made in a financial filing with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, which also reported 1,051 separate securities trades in June alone, worth between $78.1 million and $263.1 million.
Other trades that drew scrutiny included purchases of SpaceX stock on June 23, coinciding with NASA's awarding a contract to the company worth $425.6 million, and Palantir stock on June 24, just as the company received a $45.8 million government contract.
The White House has maintained that Trump's assets are held in a trust managed by his children and that outside financial institutions make individual investment decisions with no input from the president or his family.
