Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher has accused President Donald Trump of embracing 'socialism' more openly than Democrats. During his show 'Real Time', Maher pointed to recent federal stakes and revenue-sharing arrangements involving major technology and industrial firms, including Intel and Nvidia.

Maher argued that the administration's policies mirrored those traditionally championed by the far left, suggesting they were essentially running the boardroom of these companies. He highlighted a 9.9% stake in Intel owned by the government, as well as a 15% cut on Nvidia's exports to China and a 'golden share' allowing the government to outvote all other shareholders in Nippon Steel's merger with U.S. Steel.

Maher even suggested that Trump's actions aligned closely with those of Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who wants to implement similar policies in the AI industry. The critique comes shortly after Maher defended his decision to dine with Trump at the White House, arguing direct engagement was necessary because the president had no fixed beliefs.

Guest Tara Palmeri argued that traditional free-market dynamics have been abandoned, noting that federal support has influenced market performance directly benefiting administration figures. She highlighted how Intel's stock shot up 200% after the government created a floor on the stock, which Trump owns. Libertarian commentator Matt Welch called the White House's pressure tactics against corporate leadership unprecedented.
