Trump Administration Revokes Over 175,000 Visas Amid Allegations of Visa Abuse

The Trump administration has revoked over 175,000 visas from foreign nationals due to alleged violations of visa terms. The majority of these revocations were linked to law enforcement encounters, including a range of criminal activity such as assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug crimes. In some cases, visas were revoked for minor encounters or charges that did not go through the judicial process.

The State Department framed the visa revocations as part of its 'continuous vetting operations' to ensure that visa recipients abide by the terms of their visa and do not endanger Americans. The administration cited specific examples of revoked visas, including those tied to celebrations of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a right-wing activist killed in 2025.

The State Department also listed other high-profile visa revocations, including Tou Lue Vang, a father of six who was deported to Laos after being pardoned for a 2005 conviction of sexually abusing a child. The administration claimed that the majority of revoked visas were due to 'foreign policy grounds,' including ties to communist regimes in Cuba and Iran.

The announcement marked an increase in visa revocations compared to the previous year, with more than 10,000 cancellations per month in 2026 versus over 8,000 in 2025. The State Department emphasized that a U.S. visa is 'a privilege, not a right,' and committed to using every tool available to protect communities from those who abuse it.
