Trump Demands Lower Gas Prices from Oil Companies Amid Midterm Election Risks
US President Donald Trump has once again called on oil companies to lower gasoline prices for American consumers. In a social media post, he chided Chevron CEO Mike Wirth for not crediting his administration's efforts in helping the oil industry.
Trump took issue with Wirth's interview where he failed to mention the administration's role in creating a market in Venezuela and allowing US oil companies to return to the country. Trump wrote on Truth Social, 'The only thing he conveniently forgot to mention is that, without the genius, foresight, strength, and stability of the TRUMP Administration, the Oil Industry, and our Country itself would be DEAD!'
The President's demand comes as higher gas prices and cost-of-living concerns pose a political risk to his Republican Party ahead of November's midterm elections. Global oil prices dropped after Trump called off a planned 'massive attack' on Iran over the weekend, but prices at the gas pump do not necessarily follow suit.
