Trump Demands Oil Companies Lower Gas Prices Amid Election Pressure
US President Donald Trump has called on oil companies to lower gasoline prices for American consumers. In a social media post, he criticized Chevron CEO Mike Wirth for not crediting his administration's efforts in helping the oil industry.
Trump pointed out that without his administration's help, the oil industry would be 'DEAD!' He specifically mentioned creating a market in Venezuela as an example of his administration's contribution. However, Trump failed to acknowledge Chevron was thrown out of Venezuela and is now back stronger than ever due to his administration's policies.
The President urged oil companies to lower their consumer (retail!) oil prices immediately, citing higher gas prices and cost-of-living concerns as a political risk for his Republican Party ahead of the November midterm elections. Global oil prices plummeted after Trump called off a planned attack on Iran over the weekend, but pump prices do not necessarily follow suit.
