US President Donald Trump is set to fly to Ireland on September 12 and 13 on the Qatar-donated Boeing 747, marking his first international trip on the aircraft since a potential Iranian threat prompted officials to switch him to another plane in July. The jet's security features have raised concerns, with some questioning whether it has all the advanced defensive capabilities of older presidential aircraft.
The administration has said work on upgrading the Qatari jet will begin this fall and take about a month, but officials declined to comment on specific upgrades or modifications. Trump himself stated that the process would take around 60 days and would be completed by October.
The White House defended the decision, saying it 'routinely evolves' its capabilities to maintain posture. Trump also mentioned that the plane may go to a museum after his planned presidential library in Miami is completed, but he hasn't made a final decision yet.
