Trump Interrupts Nvidia Meeting with Call to CEO Huang
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was unexpectedly interrupted during an all-hands staff meeting by President Donald Trump, who called him on his mobile phone. The call came through onstage at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, California, and could be heard by thousands of remote employees watching the virtual livestream.
Huang stepped aside to take the call, leaving his microphone live for less than a minute before returning to resume the meeting. Trump congratulated Huang on Nvidia's 'incredible' quarterly sales and rosy financial forecast for next year in a social media post later that day. The president's call came as Nvidia announced a new employee-funded political action committee (PAC) to donate to federal candidates amidst debate around AI policy.
Huang has been lobbying government officials on behalf of his company, including closed-door meetings with Trump. However, the two have not always seen eye-to-eye on regulating open AI models and sales of advanced chips to China. Nvidia is also reportedly in talks to acquire Hugging Face, a platform company valued at over $13 billion.
