Trump Secures Voluntary Pricing Deals with Nine Pharmaceutical Giants
President Trump has announced new voluntary pricing agreements with nine major pharmaceutical companies. The deals aim to bring US prescription drug prices closer to those charged in other wealthy countries, as part of the administration's effort to address 'global freeloading' on American pharmaceutical innovation.
The participating companies include Amgen, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Myers Squibb, Genentech, Gilead Sciences, GSK, Merck, Novartis, and Sanofi. Under the agreements, these companies will offer certain medicines at prices comparable to the lowest they charge in other developed nations.
The deals cover drugs sold to Medicaid and some cash-paying patients, and future product launches from the companies will also be offered at those benchmark prices. In return for participating, the companies have received multiyear tariff relief.
