Trump Slams Exxon and Chevron for Profiting from Soaring Fuel Prices
US President Donald Trump has criticized Exxon and Chevron for making 'too much money' from soaring fuel prices, stating that they should return some of their earnings to the public. In a statement made on Monday, three days after the oil companies reported high second-quarter earnings due to the Iran war, Trump said: 'Chevron, too much money. ExxonMobil, too much. Too much money.'
Trump also took issue with Chevron Chief Executive Mike Wirth's appearance on Fox News, claiming that he failed to credit the Trump administration for its efforts in helping the oil industry. On his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: 'The only thing he conveniently forgot to mention is that, without the genius, foresight, strength, and stability, of the TRUMP Administration, the Oil Industry, and our Country itself, would be DEAD!'
According to Reuters, soaring gas prices related to the Iran war and cost-of-living concerns are major issues facing the nation's economy. As of Tuesday, the average gas price is $4.08 a gallon, according to AAA.
