Trump Slams ExxonMobil and Chevron Over Windfall Profits
President Trump expressed discontent with ExxonMobil and Chevron's windfall profits in Q2, citing a global oil shortage as the cause. He urged both companies to 'give some of that back' to consumers by cutting retail gasoline prices.
The two companies reported massive profits: $14.5 billion for ExxonMobil, a 100% increase from last year's Q2 profit, and $12.1 billion for Chevron, a 385% gain.
Trump stated that 'they're making too much money' and claimed one of the companies made 12 times what they did in the previous year, although he didn't specify which company.
The president suggested that bringing an end to the war in Iran could help decrease oil prices, implying it would open up the Strait of Hormuz and increase global oil supply.
