Trump Threatens to Block Bombardier from Selling Jets in US Unless it Manufatures Locally
US President Donald Trump has issued a new threat to Canadian private jet maker Bombardier, saying that unless it starts manufacturing jets in the US, it will lose access to the American market. Trump made this statement on Monday through his Truth Social platform, citing the quality of Bombardier's products as the reason for this decision.
Bombardier has a significant presence in the US, with an American workforce of 3,500 and a US footprint of 2,800 suppliers, along with factories and service centers. The company spends over $2.5 billion annually with these US suppliers. Bombardier also has a defense division with a US-based factory in Kansas where it prepares Canadian-manufactured planes for special-mission purposes.
Aerospace analyst Richard Aboulafia expressed skepticism about Trump's ability to enforce this action, stating that most Bombardier private jets use US engines produced by companies like Honeywell Aerospace and GE Aerospace. He also pointed out that the aerospace industry has largely emerged unscathed from Trump's tariff war.
