Trump-Touted IndyCar Race Lures Big Names to Washington
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix, an IndyCar race touted by President Donald Trump, will feature several major corporate sponsors for the first time on Sunday. The event takes place around Washington, D.C., and marks a celebration of the U.S.'s 250th anniversary of independence.
Boeing, SpaceX's Starlink, and Delta Air Lines have signed on as new backers, said Bud Denker, chair of the race and president of Penske Corp. The event has attracted dozens of corporate sponsors, allowing executives to mingle with administration officials and lawmakers.
'I love the race,' Trump said when he signed the executive order calling for the event in January. He will wave the green flag at the start of the race and take a lap around the course in the presidential limousine.
